May 6 – 10

**Tuesday, May 7th is an early release day.

This week in reading we will be reading the non-fiction story Sharks by Kristine George. We will use this story to focus on how authors share facts and information. We will be asking and answering questions related to the text and proving our answers with evidence from the story. We will work on comparing and contrasting using tools such as a Venn Diagram as well.

We will also be learning about non-fiction text features. These are tools authors use to share facts and information with us. Some examples we will be learning about are the table of contents, real photographs, captions, labels, diagrams, maps, timelines, close-ups, bold print, headings/subheadings, charts/graphs, glossaries, indexes, and more!

This week in Math we will continue focusing on building and counting different money amounts, but this time we will be focusing on amounts greater than $1.00. We will also introduce more information about different coins such as the fifty cent piece, or half dollar. We will be working on comparing different money amounts using words like “greater than” or “less than” as well.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back next week for more updates on our learning!
