February 25 – March 1

**Tuesday, February 26th is an early release day.

**Please have students bring their Flat Stanley journals back on Monday. We will begin sharing our adventures in class!

This week in reading we will be reading the non-fictional story Henry’s Freedom Box by Ellen Levine. Through this story we focus on identifying the mood. This means the feeling the reader gets from the story. We will also be looking at historical figures/heroes and the impact they have made.

**Poster credit goes to Rooted in Reading by Amy Lemons and Katie King**

We will also be learning about conjunctions. We use abbreviations to join together words in a sentence. Some conjunctions we use frequently include words like and, but, so, or, nor, and yet. Check out a couple examples used in sentences below.

This week in math we will finish learning about 2D and 3D shapes, as well as introducing the concepts of perimeter and area. Perimeter is the distance around a shape while area is the space inside a shape. We will be finding the perimeter and area of a variety of different polygons. Check out the poster below for more details!
