February 11 – 15

**Tuesday, February 12th is an early release day.

**Thursday, February 14th is Valentine’s Day. We will be making bags and celebrating in class. If your student would like to bring Valentines to pass out please make sure they have enough for the whole class. (We have 25 students.)

**Next week is our Winter Recess so there will be no school February 16 – 24**

This week in reading we will be reading the fictional story Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli. Through this story we focus on identifying the point of view. This means who is telling the story. We will be looking for clues, like pronouns, to help us identify if the story is being told in 1st Person or 3rd Person point of view. Check out the poster below for a couple examples!

We will also be learning about abbreviations. We use abbreviations to shorten words. We frequently use abbreviations when we write Titles (like Mr. or Mrs.), Streets (like St. or Ln.), measurements (like in. or cm.), and more! Check out a longer list below.
