January 7 – 11

**Tuesday, January 8th is an early release day.

This week in reading we will be reading the fictional story Akiak by Robert Blake. Through this story we will be focusing identifying the differences between facts and opinions. We know a fact is something true that has evidence to prove it. An opinion is how someone feels about something. Check out the poster below for a few examples.

We will also be learning about possessives. We use a possessive to show that someone or something owns (or possesses something). Typically we add an ‘s to the end of the owner’s name to show that something belongs to them. For example: The toy that belongs to the boy = the boy’s toy.

In the following weeks we will be reviewing digraphs as well. A digraph is where two letters work together to make one new sound. Digraphs we will be working on include th, ch, sh, wh, and ph.

This week in Math we will begin our Unit 5 on telling time and measurement. If you are following along at home with the Go! Math, the second half of Chapter 7  focuses on telling time and Chapters 8 and 9 focus on measurement.

This week we will be focusing on reviewing the basics of telling time. This will include but is not limited to reviewing the parts of an analog clock, telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back next week for more updates on our learning!
