**Tuesday, January 15th is an early release day.

**There is no school next Monday, January 21st.

WEEK A

READING:

This week in reading we will be reading the nonfictional story about Martin Luther King Jr. Through this story we will be focusing identifying the key facts, or important information, in a story. We will use different text features to help find the information the author wants us to know. Check out the poster below for a few examples.

**Poster credit goes to Rooted in Reading by Amy Lemons and Katie King**

We will also be learning about commas in a series. We use commas in a series when we are listing 3 or more things in one sentence. For example: My favorite colors are orange, yellow, and blue. We put the commas in between the items in list and stop using commas when we get to a word like AND or OR. Check out the poster below for another example.

We will continue reviewing digraphs as well.

MATH:

This week in Math we will continue working on telling time. This week we will be focusing on telling time to the minute as well as elapsed time. We will look at two different times and decide how many minutes or hours has passed in between them. For example: Billy started his homework at 1:00pm. He finished his homework at 2:00pm. The elapsed time would be 1 hour or 60 minutes.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back next week for more updates on our learning!
