December 10 – 14

**Tuesday, December 11th is an early release day.

**Friday, December 14th from 11:30am- 1:00pm. All 2nd graders and their parents are invited to share this buffet-style meal that will feature dishes from countries around the world. Students’ quilt projects that they have been working on will be displayed during this time as well. I hope many of you will be able to come and celebrate with us!

This week in reading we will be reading the fictional story Stone Soup by Marcia Brown. Through this story we will be focusing on identifying character traits and feelings. We will make connections to our own lives/the world on how to help others.

We be reviewing proper sentences (including a subject, predicate, capitals, and punctuations.) We will also work on expanding sentences to make them better! This includes using descriptive words and adding details to stretch out our sentences and make them stronger. Check out the poster below for an example!

**Poster credit goes to Rooted in Reading by Amy Lemons and Katie King**

This week we will also be reviewing all our r-controlled vowels that we have worked on the last few weeks (ar, or, er, ir, and ur).

This week in Math we will start working with larger numbers and move onto 3-digit addition and subtraction. Students have become masters of 2-digit numbers and have done a great job being able to explain their reasoning! We will be testing over these skills next week.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back next week for more updates on our learning!
